This music video cover song of Gotye “Somebody That I Used to Know” was all about filming ink drops in water for me. Also new indie folk music singers from Los Angeles Alex Rhodes and Tommy Miller’s switch roles with Tommy rocking the Kimbra vocals.
First of all I want to welcome Alex Rhodes to the channel. I am a big fan of Alex. Tommy and I have been friends with her for quite a few years now, and I am so stoked to finally have the opportunity to work on a video with her and Tommy together.
We actually had the idea for this video sometime around February, but busy schedules prevailed and we were unable to get everyone together. Now 4 months later, there are roughly a million covers of Gotye – “Somebody That I Used to Know” on YouTube! Anyway, I really like the version we’ve created and I hope you all enjoy it as well.
The Gotye phenomenon this year has been crazy. Even though the song “Somebody That I Used to Know” was released last year, it seemed like in March of this year, you could hardly go a day without hearing the Gotye hit in some form or another. If you haven’t heard the rest of the album (Gotye – Making Mirrors) it’s definitely worth a listen. It’s a pretty eclectic mix of songs. I think my favorites are “Eyes Wide Open” (reminds me of Peter Gabriel), “In Your Light” (sounds like George Michael), and “State of the Art” (sounds like an electronic stoner song).
I’m interested to see where Gotye goes from here, and if any other song on that album will blow up like “Somebody That I Used to Know” has.
Some people have asked if we use karaoke tracks, and we DEFINITELY do not. Everything on our channel has been recorded by the artists themselves. The songs are produced by my friend Tony Hundtoft, and then mastered by Brandon Gass another one of our friends. I handle the filming and what not with my husband, and then you guys handle the part of being awesome and watching the videos. It’s pretty simple really 🙂 We truly are just a group of friends who love making music and videos.
Thank you Alex for lending us your beautiful voice! I can’t wait to record some of your original music. Your song Astronaut is out of this world! All of you out there should check out her music below as soon as humanly possibly.
Tommy Miller, epic as usual friend. Only a few weeks before we film again! Original tunes here we come!
Thank you so so much to Josh Bachman the owner of a bad ass audio visual company and a good friend of mine. Next time 3D Holograms, since you said you can do them… I’m holdin you to it! Hologram Tupac, look out!
